some snippets from life lately: foraged for some blackberries, listened to andrew bird in the forest, some flower pickings from my morning commute, the most adorable new pup!

sight seeing : devil's slide

Every so often, a good friend and I jump in the car and drive up and down the coast to escape the city for a bit. We never have a destination in mind, we just stop whenever something catches our eye. This time we decided to go south and landed at Devil's Slide. It was constructed in 1973, as part of Highway 1, connecting travelers from San Francisco to Half Moon Bay and was used in WWII as part of San Francisco's harbor defense. The 1.3 mile stretch proved to be too dangerous for cars, and so it was shut down last year, repaved and then reopened only to pedestrians and cyclists (and pups!).

We walked slow and soaked in the views, stopping every once in a while to just sit and take it all in. I picked flowers and we hopped over a couple of fences that we weren't supposed to (because that's what adventure is for, right?). And when we got to the other side, we turned around and did it all over again. To be honest, I could walk back and forth along this trail all day and never get tired of it.

Afterwards, we decided to keep driving south to Pescadero and San Gregorio Beach -- I'll share those photos soon.

The morning was spent visiting a few old favorites before meeting up for some liquid courage for an afternoon skating adventure through the park. We skated in so many circles I lost count, and then decided to make our way through the neighborhood for some dinner and drinks to celebrate a successful first lesson.
